Editorial policy
Last updated: 1 October 2026. The standards our newsroom works to — how we source stories, verify claims, handle leaked data and stay independent.
Our mission
Unlisted Report exists to make cybersecurity understandable. We cover data breaches, vulnerabilities, ransomware, scams and privacy in plain language, so that both professionals and everyday readers know what happened, why it matters and what to do next.
Sourcing and verification
- We confirm every breach, leak or vulnerability claim with at least two independent sources, or with primary evidence such as official filings, regulator notices, vendor advisories or data we have reviewed ourselves.
- When a claim comes from a single source — including a criminal group — we say so clearly in the story.
- We name our sources wherever possible. Anonymous sources are used only when the information is in the public interest and cannot be obtained on the record.
- Companies named in a story are contacted for comment before publication whenever practical, and their responses are included fairly.
Independence
Advertisers and sponsors have no say over what we cover or what we conclude. Writers disclose any conflict of interest to their editor before starting a story, and we do not accept payment, gifts or travel in exchange for coverage. Where a commercial relationship exists with a company we cover — for example an affiliate partnership — it is disclosed on the relevant page.
Reviews and rankings
Our reviews and comparisons are based on published criteria, hands-on evaluation where stated, and information from vendors and independent sources. Rankings reflect our editorial judgement. Commercial relationships never determine a ranking, and companies cannot pay to be included or placed.
Handling leaked data
- We never publish personal information from leaked datasets.
- We never pay for stolen data, and we do not help sell or distribute it.
- When we verify a breach by examining a sample, we access the minimum necessary and do not retain personal data after verification.
- We do not publish details that would help attackers exploit an unpatched vulnerability before a fix is available.
Accuracy and corrections
We correct errors quickly and transparently, with a note on the article explaining what changed. See our corrections policy for how to report a mistake.
Use of AI tools
Our reporting is researched, written and edited by people. We may use software tools for transcription, research assistance and image creation, but every published story is reviewed and approved by a human editor, and facts are checked against primary sources before publication.
