Apple has warned about scam sites offering preorders for iPhone models that do not exist, such as an "iPhone Duo", WebProNews reports.
How it works
- Targeted ads on social media, search engines and newsletters promise early access or discounts.
- The links lead to near-perfect copies of Apple's online store, with professional photos, specs and countdown timers.
- Victims are asked for their Apple ID to "reserve" a device, then for name, address, phone number and card details.
- Some versions also install tracking scripts.
Warning signs
- The product is not on apple.com — Apple announces every model itself.
- Prices are unusually low or "exclusive".
- Timers pressure you to act immediately.
If you entered your details
- Change your Apple ID password and check your trusted devices.
- Call your bank to block the card.
- Report the site to Apple at reportphishing@apple.com.
